Mads was tired of driving past the farm

What do you do when cars rush past your yard and many don't care about the speed limit?

Mats Urban Bergstrøm from Langeland outside Mandal has experienced just that and was gradually abandoned. So stated that he decided to do something about the matter. And that has caught the eye.

Several local newspapers have written about his stunt, and police have even posted a picture of it all on Twitter.

What is Mads doing?

"Yes, I decided to make a doll that I put on the roadside. It is highly homemade and is wearing a yellow reflective vest. But it has proven to be effective," smiles Mads.

What - at least a little distance - may look like a laser gun cop has caused many motorists to slow down and slow down over the past week.

It can be like throwing thousands of patches at the fireplace

50-zone and farmyard
"I noticed it particularly well the first evening when many people drove much more carefully past the farm," says Mads.

After the E39 was closed in the area, he experienced a significant increase in traffic past his property.

"Of course, I just have to accept that, of course, people have to get ahead. What I respond to is that many people drive too fast, even though this is a 50 zone and it is marked 'Gardstun'," says Mats, who himself has children of five and seven years.

Have you received much response to this stunt?

"Yes, there has been a lot of talk about this in the neighborhood, and my impression is that everyone is positive. It's all about slowing down, which is positive for everyone who lives here," says Mads.

You're not afraid the police will dislike this?

No, and I haven't heard from them either. It would surprise me if they spend time on this when they don't have time to get out and even control how fast people are driving.

UP doesn't like it
To the local newspaper Lindesnes, district manager Oystein Krogstad in UP says that they are little excited about the invention.

"This I can spare my enthusiasm for. It is up to the UP and the police to take care of traffic controls and the general traffic safety, not the citizens. Then we can rather intensify the controls. It can draw attention away from the road. If everyone is to look at that doll and get irritated with it, accidents can quickly happen," says the UP chief, Lindesnes.

Gediminas Kalasūnas, Chief of Operations Organization and Prevention Division of Klaipėda Road Police Service, stated that this artery was not chosen by chance. "The lane for cyclists on Vytauto Street is marked in the driveway. Next, to other transport, there are intersections. We have also evaluated the number of fatalities that have occurred in recent years here. Electric scooter drivers must follow KET requirements

With the proliferation of electric scooters in the streets, sidewalks and pedestrian areas, the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration reminds that in the street, the owner of each electric scooter becomes a public traffic participant, who has to comply with the Road Traffic Rules (KET).

"Before setting off on the paths and streets, people should remember that the requirements of the Road Traffic Code are also binding on motorcycle riders, and electric scooters with an internal combustion engine or electric motor of power of not more than 1 kW and of a maximum of 25 kW. km / h, they are," said Laurynas Jovaišas, Chief Inspector of the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration, in a press release. According to him, such an electric scooter is classified as an electric bicycle and can be used on a bike lane or bike lane, and when there is no signposted bike lane or bike lane on the right side of the road, the sidewalk is allowed. "When driving on the road at night or in low visibility conditions, the driver of the electric scooter should turn on a white light at the front, a red light should illuminate at the rear, and a rider should wear a bright-colored safety vest with reflective materials," the expert recalled. He added that as you drive in the driveway, the same requirements apply during daylight hours. The report notes that the electric scooter can only be driven on the road with a good brake and sound signal. Drivers under the age of 18 must wear a cyclist helmet while on the road. According to L. Jovaisa, electric scooters can be classified as mopeds according to their technical characteristics if they develop speeds from 25 to 45 km / h and maximum net power is from 1 kW to 4 kW. In such a case, such vehicles must be registered, insured, roadworthy, and drivers of such vehicles must hold a driving license with the appropriate driving category. Without the necessary documentation, the driver of such an electric scooter would be subject to administrative liability. The driver and passengers of such vehicles must wear motorcycle helmets.

30 cyclists have been injured in road accidents in eight months

In the eight months of this year, 47 road traffic accidents were recorded, involving 30 cyclists, of which 23 were slightly injured and seven were serious, Zane Vaskane, a senior specialist of the Vidzeme Regional Police of the State Police (LETA), informed LETA.

One bicycle driver was killed in an accident. In August alone, there were ten road accidents involving cyclists. Five cyclists were injured there. By contrast, in the eight months of last year, 64 road accidents were recorded in which 49 cyclists were injured, of which 17 cyclists seriously injured and one bicycle driver died. In the first days of September, several juvenile cyclists also suffered in Vidzeme.

The bike is a great ally that can make it easier to get to work, school, and open up new recreational and travel opportunities, but the State Police recalls that some rules that apply to every road user must be respected, as well as certain safety requirements directly to cyclists.

The police recall the most important requirements that cyclists must meet.

The bike must always be in good working order. Each time you drive, you should make sure that your brakes are working properly and that the tires are inflated to the correct pressure.

It is recommended that you wear brightly colored clothing with reflective fabrics. Children must wear a safety helmet and be fastened. In places where there is no dedicated cycling infrastructure, cyclists should walk along the street in one lane and as close as possible to the right edge of the carriageway.

Children up to the age of 12 and their accompanying persons are allowed to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk.

However, any other cyclist may also travel on the sidewalk if he/she does not feel safe on the road, for example in heavy traffic or bad weather. Just keep in mind that pedestrians move along the sidewalk, meaning that cyclists must respect pedestrians and their safety.

When driving in the dark or other conditions of low visibility, the bicycle must turn on the headlights - the white light on the front and the red light on the rear. The rules require the bike to be fitted with reflective materials, a police spokeswoman said.

Although the number of injured cyclists has fallen in the eight months of 2019, it remains relatively high. The LP has registered some child traffic accidents, so at the start of the new school year, the VP urges parents to discuss safety issues with their children, to repeat the rules of the road, so that the road to school is safe and without unpleasant surprises.

Meteorologist John Nodar stars in motorcycle awareness spot

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. As a motorcycle enthusiast himself, WKRG News 5 meteorologist John Nodar is helping spread the word. Nodar stars in a new motorcycle safety spot produced by WKRG that will air through May. There were two deadly accidents just on the first day of May in the Mobile area. In the latest, police say a motorcycle rider was killed in Daphne by a DUI driver on the Interstate.

MORE ON MOTORCYCLE MONTH:

May is motorcycle safety awareness month. Police, state agencies, bikers, and those who love them are asking folks to take an extra moment to watch out for motorcycles. More importantly, watch out for the dads, moms, brothers, and sisters who are riding those motorcycles.

The bikers hold responsibility for their safety too, after all, it is we who decide to take part in an inherently dangerous activity.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "motorcyclist deaths occurred 28 times more frequently than other fatalities based on 2016 fatal crash data. To keep motorcyclists safe, we urge everyone to share the road and be alert, and we need to remind motorcyclists to make themselves visible, to use DOT-compliant motorcycle helmets, and to always ride sober."

According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, "In 2014, 4,586 motorcyclists were killed in traffic crashes representing 14 percent of total highway fatalities. While that was a decrease from the year before, further efforts on awareness and commitment to safety are required to reach the ultimate goal of zero deaths on the Mississippi highways."

MDOT also has tips for drivers and motorcyclists alike.

For Drivers:

Allow the motorcycle the full width of a lane at all times.

Always signal when changing lanes or merging with traffic.

If you see a motorcycle with a signal on, be careful: motorcycle signals are often non-canceling and could have been forgotten. Always ensure that the motorcycle is turning before proceeding.

Check all mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles before changing lanes or girlfriends with traffic, especially at intersections.

Always allow more follow distance - three to four seconds - when behind a motorcycle. This gives them more time to maneuver or stop in an emergency.

Never drive distracted or impaired.

MDOT also offers tips for motorcyclists:

Wear a DOT-compliant helmet and other protective safety clothing.

Obey all traffic laws and be properly licensed.

Use hand and turn signals at every lane change or turn.

Wear brightly colored clothes and reflective tape to increase visibility.

Ride in the middle of the lane where you will be more visible to the drivers.

Never ride distracted or impaired.

Car holidays: what to look for?

For many companies, a company car is included in fringe benefits, so it is used not only for work but also for private purposes. This is especially true during the summer holidays when employees feel safer starting with regularly serviced company vehicles. However, heat, congested roads and the resulting irritability and impaired concentration ability increase the risk of accidents. According to Arval Fleet Operator, some basic precautions can be taken to avoid dangerous situations, but responsible driving is the basis for drivers to be aware of the features and capabilities of their cars.

August is traditionally the holiday season in Hungary, so on Thursday and Friday, the roads leading out of the towns are full. This also increases the likelihood of accidents, as drivers' ability to concentrate is negatively affected by heat and, moreover, because of their weight, they become more impatient. According to Arval experts, the essential prerequisites for safe travel include a regularly serviced, well-maintained vehicle and a good driver attitude and knowledge of the car's features. "Driver safety is important to us, and we also want to promote driver training tailored to the needs of our customers, where participants can learn the basics of dealing with extreme situations and learn how to reduce the environmental burden of using a car," says Kristóf Kovách, Director of Sales. "However, there are general tips that everyone should take, whether you are driving a business or your car."

If the mandatory service falls on your vacation, bring it forward and have the car checked before you set off. This also avoids the loss of warranty.
Before driving off, check the chassis for technical condition, as too soft or worn tires can extend the braking distance. After summer showers, the roads can be slippery, and in hot weather, we can get defects more easily. It is also important to check the tire pressure, which should not forget the spare wheel. Do not leave the hoist, wheel keys or wheel guard at home.

Don't forget the supply of coolant, engine oil, and windscreen washer fluid as well, always check the fluid level before traveling.
It is important that all vehicle safety equipment (first aid kit, visibility safety vest) is in place and that lighting and light signaling devices are operating properly.

Clean the air conditioner and make sure the windows are properly shielded.

Don't leave any of your travel documents at home: make sure you have your license, car registration and valid technical license, green insurance card, and international accident report form before you leave. We also have assistance telephone numbers for assistance.
Plan to protect yourself from the heat and unnecessary stress!

We plan your trip ahead of time to avoid wasting time and unnecessary stress. We must know the rules of the countries involved in our journey, especially regarding speed limits and tolls. The important information is usually available tomorrow at the Hungarian Consulate of the country in question.

Think about how much you refuel and if you have a fuel card, pay attention to its limits.

Wear sunglasses in the car, but not too dark to always see the dashboard.

Always have at least 3-4 bottles of carbonated mineral water in your car, which may come in handy for plugging, washing your hands, or if your car breaks down; but in the final case, it is also suitable for minimal cooling water. At the same time, you should always be careful of your fluid intake while driving.

Do not overdo it, take a few hours rest and, if possible, change each other behind the wheel. For night trips, it is good to have someone who stays awake next to the driver and can alert you to signs of fatigue. The driver usually does not detect when he falls asleep.

Keep a longer tracking distance because, in the high heat, we are more tired, inattentive, and have less reaction time.
