Out of concern for the safety of
people traveling on the roads of the whole country on December 21-26, traffic
policemen will conduct nationwide Safe Christmas activities 2018.
In the run-up to Christmas, and on
holidays, many families set out on a journey to visit their relatives. Even if
the road for some is not far away, it should be safe.
Unfortunately, this is not always the
case. Last year, on December 22-26, in 23 cases, one person was killed, and 32
were injured. It is true that a smaller number of events that are often
recorded within business days. However, lack of prudence and nonchalance on the
roads, these are still the main causes of accidents.
To meet the diagnosed threats, the
police in these sensitive days will intensify the activities on the roads to
ensure maximum safety for all travelers, especially on days of trips and return
days.
During this exceptional period, the
police will do their best to support travelers, concentrating their activities
in particular on providing road assistance to all road users.
Therefore, during Christmas Safe 2018,
policemen serving on the roads will pay special attention to the state of
sobriety, the technical condition of vehicles, the way of transporting
passengers, especially children. They will also remind motorists to control the
speed of travel, that you cannot make up for the lost time during the holidays.
Drivers, while driving, are
responsible not only for their own safety but also for the safety of others. In
turn, passengers should be aware that although they do not drive the vehicle,
they can have an impact on the safety of the journey, by using seat belts or by
not allowing the driver to exceed the speed limit or even worse, get behind the
wheel after drinking alcohol or agents similar to alcohol (drugs, medicines). Last
year, as many as 97 intoxicated drivers were detained during the holiday season.
What is the police doing?
We should also pay special attention
to the youngest road users, providing them with a safe journey in a safety seat
that meets the right technical conditions.
Do not forget to prepare your car for
the road. In winter conditions, first of all, check the lights, brakes, fluids
and, of course, put on winter tires.
In conditions of insufficient
visibility, drivers notice later than usual any unobstructed obstacles on the
road, in particular pedestrians dressed in clothing that is close to the
environment (black, gray). It is worth to let pedestrians wear reflective
vests in a visible
way for drivers of vehicles. We remind you that it is the duty of all pedestrians
who move on a roadway or roadside outside of a built-up area after dark. It's
worth taking care of your safety by wearing a reflective element with reflective
material in the built-up area.
