Bicycle outfit: we choose a T-shirt, pants and bike shoes

Bike outfit - why is it important?
Every lover of this sport should wear a bicycle outfit. A well-chosen sports outfit protects the body against harmful radiation or wind. Important in cycling clothing are reflective fabrics, thanks to which we are more visible to drivers, especially at night.

Suitable bicycle shoes should form part of the outfit. The choice of shoes will depend on the field of cycling. Shoes used for road cycling may differ in hardness from the shoes used by mountain bikers. Perfectly matched bike shoes should protect the foot and not cause painful abrasions or blisters on the feet.

Elements of bicycle outfit
The bicycle outfit consists of several elements. First of all, we should equip ourselves with several sports shirts, which we will put on ourselves during cold mornings. If the temperature during the day increases, we will be able to take them off gradually. A good idea is the use of reflective clothing that drains water vapor and sweat from the skin. Bicycle clothing should adhere to the body so as not to restrict movement, therefore it is not the best idea to choose a wide cotton sweatshirt.

Professional cyclists should wear a sweatshirt and a sports jacket, including a raincoat. When looking for pants for a bike, we will also find different types. From adjoining to thermally active or insulated. In summer, it is worth choosing short fitting shorts. If you travel a long distance on a bike, you should buy at least two pairs. Our feet should be protected not only by footwear but also longer bicycle socks, preferably from air-permeable material.

A protective helmet is sure to come in handy. When planning shopping, you should think about protecting yourself from the cold and stocking yourself with a neck scarf. Regardless of the season, bike gloves will be a good purchase - with stiffened but also flexible material.

Bicycle shoes
Bike shoes, like the outfit, should be skillfully chosen. Buying too big or too small shoes, in the hope that they will break up, is not a good idea. Bicycle shoes should fit, hold your foot and be comfortable. It is not worth saving on them.

Many cycling enthusiasts opt for SPD shoes, which are models adapted to be attached to SPD pedals (the mechanism connecting the shoe with the pedal), which in many cases can also be worn with classic pedals. Professional bicycle shoes have a hard sole that makes the ride easier, but it makes walking difficult, so if you only ride on a bike recreationally, and you want to use your shoes for other purposes, choose a sole with less hardness.

Trekking shoes with a thick, durable sole are good. The upper of the bike shoe should not be too high so as not to obstruct movements or cause abrasions. It is important that the material of the shoe is breathable, eg made of mesh in the front part of the shoe. Reflective materials on footwear will additionally affect our road safety.

Bike outfit - price
The price of a complete bicycle outfit may depend on the brand, material, and systems used in production. In the fall and winter season, we will dress warmer than in the spring and summer season, so we will pay more for the outfit. If we are just starting our adventure with a bike and we do not have a complete outfit, the whole thing can cost us even a thousand zlotys. However, it is not worth saving on individual items.

Elements of cycling outfit made of more durable material will be relatively more expensive, but they will also serve us longer. However, if we do not want to overpay, we can look for additives on stock exchanges or auctions.

Participation of students from the Primary School in the social campaign "You are visible, you are safe"

On March 27, 2019, a very important campaign took place in our school as part of the "You are visible, you're safe" social campaign. The action was taken under the patronage of the Marshal's Office of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, and it was carried out in cooperation with the Municipal Police Headquarters, the Provincial Traffic Center and the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service.

The event was honored by its presence: Mrs. Janina Ewa Orzełowska - a member of the Masovian Voivodeship Board and representatives of the Marshal's Office of the Masovian Voivodeship in Warsaw, Mrs. Magdalena Sałata - Director of the Office of the Marshal's Office in Siedlce, Mrs. Dorota Dmowska-Paczuska - Secretary of the Siedlce Commune, Mr. Dariusz Napiórkowski - Director of the Voivodship Traffic Center along with representatives of WORD, representatives of the Municipal Police Headquarters and Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service, as well as representatives of the media, including "Tygodnik Siedlecki". The action "You are visible, you are safe" started with an official meeting in the gym. Everyone speaking to our students emphasized how important it is to wear reflective vests that significantly increase our safety on the roads. Even a small reflective element on the backpack or clothing makes the driver receive a warning that someone is moving along the way. Pedestrian wearing reflective elements with reflective tapes become visible from a distance of 150 meters.

At the end of this official meeting, the youth received a set of reflective elements for themselves and members of their families.

Then, under the supervision of teachers, students took part in three thematic panels devoted to security issues. All students learned the rules of first aid during exercises on phantoms to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation conducted under the professional supervision of medical rescuers from the State Fire Service in Siedlce. Under the supervision of the WORD specialists, they learned how to properly cycle on a bicycle track. An additional attraction of this panel was the possibility of a ride on a motorcycle simulator. As part of the third panel, children watched educational films devoted to security and prevention issues, additionally accompanied by comments from representatives of the NPM in Siedlce.

We greatly hope that our students will be able to use the acquired knowledge and skills in practical situations.

Better than traditional reflections?

London cyclists will test it soon. A special spray - invisible during the day and at night reflects light.

How it's working? As the producer assures, just before spraying on the bike, spray the helmet, jacket, and bike with spray. A layer invisible during the day is deposited on painted objects. In the evening, objects illuminated by the light of the car headlights will shine brightly.

When you get home, you need to wash your clothes, although it is not necessary, because the paint is invisible during the day. The spray stays on the objects for about a week.

200 LifePaint spray cans will be distributed to London bikers by Volvo Cars UK and the Swedish manufacturer of reflective varnishes, Albedo 100.

The manufacturer ensures that the reflective spray can be used even on prams. A variant was also developed that can be applied to animal fur. This solution has a big advantage over traditional reflective fabrics sewn into clothes or put on in the form of reflective vests, bands because it makes everything can become a reflection in a few seconds.

How much is it? For one can of innovative spray you have to pay - depending on the type - from 70 to 95 PLN. London cyclists will get them for free.

"Driving a car is a complex and demanding task. In low-light conditions it becomes even more difficult, especially in cities where roads are shared with cyclists and pedestrians are walking on them," says Adrian Walsh, director of Road Safe, a British forum promoting road safety. This innovative technology will certainly help make these places safer and it's very uplifting that the carmaker is trying to reach cyclists and pedestrians so that they are less likely to be injured.

It remains unsafe in the workplace

44% of the employees on the work floor in a factory, workshop or outside location indicate that they have experienced a stumble and/or fall. 24% sometimes made a mistake. Recent research by Manutan shows that tripping or slipping is at the top of the top 5 most common workplace accidents. "It indicates that walking on the work floor is still not without risk," says Jan Piet van Dijk, Director Operations Benelux, and Safety Coordinator at Manutan. "On the one hand more attention should be paid to a clean, well-arranged workplace, on the other hand, the correct application of personal protective equipment, from safety clothing to fall and hearing protection, is very important."

A fall can have major consequences
"It seems so innocuous," says Jan Piet, "you stumble, get up and go on. Yet it does not always stop there. Sometimes injuries to muscles or tendons, or even a bone fracture. And worse, someone lands on his or her head wrong while no safety helmet was worn. Absence from a few days to even a few weeks can result. Very annoying for the victim and the employer. Manutan has been active in the field of safety for years and supplies more than 12,500 products that promote safety in the factory, workshop, outside location and office. The research also shows that safety equipment is not always present in 35% of the cases. "That is a high percentage," says Jan Piet, "apparently safety is not taken equally seriously everywhere. In addition, it is, of course, important that the protective equipment chosen fits the requirements of the working environment. "

Choose the right protective equipment
"Take safety shoes," Jan Piet continues. “We have almost 200 different varieties in our range. Do you work in a wet environment, are there sharp objects on the construction site, do you work with chemical products or electricity, can something fall on your shoes, can you get caught with your foot? All things that are important to take with you when purchasing the shoes. In addition, natural dimensions and comfort are important. Experience shows that employees wear their shoes sooner if they sit comfortably. And so it goes for almost all personal protective equipment: choose the right safety class for the right working environment and ensure a good fit that the employee feels comfortable in and can move around in. "

Top 5 of the most common accidents that cause physical injury in the workplace:
Tripping or slipping: 44%
Wrong lifting: 29%
Missteps: 24%
Struck by falling object: 15%
Fall of fewer than 2.5 meters height: 12%

Manutan works for you, also in the field of safety

Jan Piet: “We pay a lot of attention to safety and can provide good advice based on our knowledge and experience. You can also find a lot of information on our blog about what to look for when purchasing the right safety equipment, like reflective vests, reflective tapes. In addition, we are of course available by email or telephone for advice. Under the theme "Manutan works for you" we support you in the workplace and in the office to make you work even more safely. Northwave winter jacket uses eVent fabric

After a hopefully fantastic cycling summer, you have to prepare as a cyclist for a cold Belgian winter. Northwave wants to respond to this through a new collaboration with eVent fabrics. The Italian manufacturer will use the latest eVent ePTFE membrane technology, called DVstretch, in the Northwave Arctic Jacket, which will be released in October.

The Arctic Jacket offers protection and comfort thanks to the windproof DVstretch membrane, which is used in the three-layer BP Puma laminate from ITTTAI-Bel Punto S.r.l., which can exclusively make fabrics with the DV stretch technology. The BP Puma laminate covers the entire front and back of the jacket to provide good wind protection, breathing and staying elastic. The fabric can stretch 35% and fully return to its original state. In addition, Northwave uses Lombardia fabric, a very soft and open material, under the arms to better match the body.

DVstretch uses eVent's Direct Venting (DV) technology, which means that the ePTFE membrane is air-permeable and has a porous structure, so that heat and sweat can pass directly through the membrane. In addition, the DV stretch is windproof and water-repellent.

"This combination of benefits is ideal for aerobic sports such as cycling," says Chad Kelly, Global Product Manager at eVent fabrics. "Cyclists generate a lot of heat and moisture that needs to get away quickly through clothing. But they also need essential protection from wind and weather."

The Arctic Jacket is in the "Be Visible Be Safe" collection from Northwave, which is designed for maximum visibility and safety, which is especially important when the days get shorter and it gets dark, foggy or rainy faster. There are also reflective Pixel details in the jacket. This unique technology allows reflective heat transfer vinyls to be printed directly onto the fabric so that a larger part of the jacket can reflect. They are also softer than normal reflection elements. They are in this jacket on the neck, sleeves, and back.

Stylish reflections for arms and legs

Reflectors one can never have too many of. You can do this quickly and easily yourself, a whole pile on an evening! It will be great gifts to share with family and friends. More reflective materials on the people!

Nowadays, reflective fabrics and ribbons are also available in white, black, orange, yellow and various gray shades so it is easy to make personal reflections in their own style. If you also decorate with a little tip and/or sewing machine seams, you can get delicious reflections that look like jewelry.

I hope these are reflections that always get on the jacket so that they are in the right place when the darkness surprises. Why not make matching reflections to the legs as well?

You need:

reflective tape
woven wool sweater/wool fabric / woven wool plate
elastic
sewing machine
(Safety needle)

How to use:

Take measurements around the jacket arm or leg. Cut a piece of woolen fabric that is as wide as you want it and about 3 cm shorter than the circumference you just measured up.
Cut for reflective fabric/bands that are as long but preferably a few millimeters narrower so that the color of the background fabric may emerge. Cut either several narrow bands or one wide depending on how you want your reflective bracelet to look.
Cut into a piece of matching the color if you want to decorate on top of the reflective fabric. In the dark, the tip itself is not visible, but only the reflective fabric that shines through because the tip is so thin and has so many holes.
Place the parts on top of each other, first the wool piece then the reflective material and then the tip on top.
Sew all layers at the same time on the sewing machine. Use one of the machine's decorative stitches if you think so.
Cut a piece of the rubber band that is about 5 cm and sew it in both short ends so it is easier to touch on and off the finished reflex.

Attach to the jacket. Use a safety pin if needed.

Bicyclist in Bucharest? Do not dare!

What is legal is not always logical. The authorities of the capital encourage us to use alternative means of transport but forget something essential: this city is not at all friendly with cyclists. All campaigns to encourage two-wheel travel are just dust in the eye and I'll explain why.

I became a bicycle of necessity, but not at the suggestion of my mayor. I think we all have to put our muscles in motion during the day, and not just the weekend. I took my bicycle and ventured into the chaotic traffic of the capital to check if the authorities' call to give up the car was a good one to follow.

I tell you from the start that your mayors are battering the plains. This city is not ready to receive this strange "species" of people, who are bikers. They are strange because they have the "nerve" to ask for special strips. They want to be visible and respected in traffic, just as every driver wants. Ho! What exaggerated claims they have! After two months of testing a lot of trails on the home-service and return route, I can tell you that wherever I go, I'm going to have the same dangers.

Bucharest is the only capital city in Europe that has less than 5 km of tracks, and this forces you, as a cyclist, to run on the first lane. But, with us, lane I am occupied by parked cars. Walking on the sidewalk is forbidden, according to the Road Code, but in many situations, you do not have anywhere. Drivers stationed on the lane are a nuisance. When I open the door without making sure you prove to me once again that you are a species that is not taken into account in the urban jungle.

No one expects you to be there so that, until the city is accessed for two-wheeled vehicles, forget that you have rights. And if you have a car, do not give it up! Councilors' advice is a story of sleeping children.

Look before you venture on two wheels
Your bicycle must have horn, headlamp and stop, but also reflectors or reflective strips on tires or spokes
The helmet, reflective vest, and pedal retroreflectors are optional

You can run on public roads even if there are no special bands, but only if you do not endanger yourself and the others on the road.
