for a leisurely tour of Harz, Solling or Weserbergland. However, the summer
season was again accompanied by an extensive accident involving dead and
injured motorcyclists. Now the release is so slowly announced, the days are
getting shorter, the shadows longer, time to adjust the handling to the
changing and difficult conditions.
The Institute for Two-wheeled Safety
from Essen has dealt intensively with the topic and provides the most important
tips for the coming autumn season. "Defensive driving and offensive
experience," the experts of the ifz bring the autumnal driving pleasure on
a handy common denominator. Even on balmy autumn days, it can quickly become
fresher and slippery in the shade. It is all the more pleasant when the sun
comes out again and provides warmth.
Clothing has to fit
Autumn still offers good opportunities
for motorcycle and scooter riders to enjoy thrilling rides with the enjoyment
of colorful forests and beautiful landscapes. But you should be aware of the
interplay of temperatures. Of course, this includes the appropriate safety
clothing, so that the
cyclist remains flexible in terms of climate technology.
Every motorcyclist knows this if the
wind then turns out fresher than expected or the sun burns stronger than
expected. Jackets and trousers with removable inner lining or combinations with
outer jackets can, the Institute advises, be helpful in these contrasting
weather conditions. "Likewise on the way quickly are small helpers such as
balaclavas, neck and knee warmers or wind and water-resistant overcoat, to defy
the weather and always provide maximum comfort," explain the experts.

Enjoy the fall again
Taking all the good advice and
warnings together, "moped driving" seems particularly dangerous in
the fall. However, if you are attentive and traveling at an appropriate speed,
the season is a welcome occasion to enjoy the driving pleasure again to your
heart's content before the machine is winter-ready and goes into well-deserved
hibernation for a few months. "Those who keep the aspects mentioned in
mind for their autumn travels and are on the defensive can enjoy the offensive
driving pleasure once again," say the experts for two-wheeler safety.
The police regularly organize
transnational prevention events to increase motorcycle safety and reduce
motorcycle accidents in the Harz and Kyffhäuser. As part of the "Safe
through the Harz" cooperation agreement between the states of
Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Lower Saxony, since 2008 the problems of
ever-increasing motorcycle traffic in the Harz mountains have been tackled
together. The main objective is to reduce the number of accidents involving
motorcyclists.
In this project, the police work
together with the responsible state and local traffic guards as well as
numerous other network partners.
