Cyclist Air Bag: How It Works

In spite of the fact that it is impossible to develop high speeds on a classic bike, the trip still carries a certain risk. But more and more devices appear that make travel safer.

The French company Helite has created a vest B'Safe, ensuring the safety of cyclists. B'Safe is not only a reflective material but also a real airbag. It consists of 2 "gadgets": directly the vest, equipped with sensors, and the sensor installed under the seat. The latter tracks the position of the cyclist.

In the event of a fall or collision, an alarm signal is generated, the built-in carbon cartridge is activated, and gas fills the vest along special channels. B'Safe protects the most vulnerable places in case of accidents: neck, shoulders, chest, and back. The manufacturer claims that the vest is "inflated" in just 0.08 s. This "airbag" is a reusable accessory; you just need to fill the cassette with carbon. In addition, the safety vest made of waterproof, breathable material that provides maximum comfort and will be presented in two colors (yellow and black). So far, B'Safe has not been on sale.

By the way, on Aliexpress such an accessory is already available for order. In contrast to the development of the French company, the Chinese counterpart works in a "mechanical mode": the driver needs to fix a special rope on the steering wheel, which, with a sudden change of position, will pull the check and the gas cartridge will be activated.
